Program, Development & Negotiation Support for Disposition of 17-Acre Bay Area Agricultural Research Center
Client: State of California
dashed line separator The State of California, through its prime contractor, DVP Associates, engaged Gruen Gruen + Associates (GG+A) to identify the highest and best politically feasible re-use for a 17-acre site that had originally been an agricultural research plot in Santa Clara, CA. GG+A identified a single family program for most of the site, and also suggested the contribution of a portion of the site for the development of affordable housing, which was much desired by the community. Summerhill Development was selected as the developer, and although the project was held up for several years due to political controversy, in February of 2008 the voters of Santa Clara rejected a referendum that had sought to forestall the development of the property. As a result the 17 acres was sold for the uses suggested by Gruen Gruen + Associates for $44 million.
